Because our skin is our largest organ, what goes onto our body goes into our body, which is why the nicotine patch works so well. Therefore, if we are going to treat the physical body by teaching about “whole” and “real” foods, we must also teach about nourishing the body from the outside in with “real” products. The ingredients used include: candelilla wax, shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, jojoba wax, and essential oils.
Every day, we are exposed to chemicals and toxins (due to pesticides on food and added to the products that we use) that slowly break down the body’s immune system and ultimately lead to chronic illness. Here, at My Health and Wellness Corner, we learn how to prepare and enjoy wonderful food and we also make our own face creams, body butters, lip balms, fragrances, shampoos, body washes, etc. We make our house cleansing products and room sprays. These products are so fun, quick and easy to make, that we like to share the joy and would like to teach you how to make your own. When you make your own products, you also save a crap-ton of money. This is known as the “Teach the Person to Fish” Philosophy, based on the adage, “Give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day; teach him to fish and he’ll eat for a lifetime.”
Later, we can learn herbal remedies that help with colds and flus, and generally build our immune system.
Ruth is a Holistic Nutrition and Aromatherapy Educator, specializing in food nutrition and essential oil safety education.
Ruth studied bioengineering for four years, approximately 30 years ago, in response to a debilitating illness that lasted eight years and, after realizing how many synthetics and chemicals were in most commercial products, Ruth began making her own housecleaning products and personal care products. She was delighted to discover that not only were they almost effective as their chemical counterparts, but she was saving money — which is always a bonus! (And she wasn’t almost passing out from the fumes!)
After a diagnosis of Celiac disease, and cutting gluten out of her diet, Ruth slowly began to heal. She became fascinated by nutrition and believes that there is not one “diet” for anyone. “The body will tell you what it needs. You just have to know how to interpret it.”
Ruth has studied nutrition, informally, for approximately 25 years, and formally has studied holistic nutrition and aromatherapy for three years and is awaiting her certification in both specialties. Ruth is a certified aromatherapy educator or “sensei”. Sensei is the Japanese word for “revered teacher”, but Ruth also teaches about “scents, eh?” (Yes. We know. Lame.) and essential oil safety while teaching people how to make their own personal care products. Because holistic nutrition treats the whole person, and not just what you eat, holistic nutrition also incorporates emotional, spiritual, physical health and what you put on your skin.
These recipes and tips will be shared with you as a member of this website.
Ruth is not a doctor and recommends that, if you have any pre-existing conditions, you should make any dietary and lifestyle changes under the guidance of a health professional, family physician, naturopath, etc.
